Changing the way how research and innovation is organized and funded and how researchers are trained and incentivized will be critical for the long-term implementation of RRI. But institutions are not easily changed. They are complex, inert and tend to hold on to habituated routines which proved sufficiently successful in the past. Therefore, in order to accomplish institutional change towards RRI, appropriate strategies, tactics and mechanisms as well as skilful and passionate “institutional entrepreneurs” are needed. In this session we want to learn about and discuss the concepts, preconditions, opportunities and experiences with institutional change towards RRI from different angles and in various organizational context.
